Fully Funded DESY Summer Student Internship 2018 in Germany
Applications are now open for the Fully Funded DESY Summer Student Internship 2018 in Germany.
DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics. Each summer DESY offers students in physics or related natural science disciplines the opportunity to participate in its research activities.
About 100 students from all over the world take part in DESY’s research and attend the lecture program In 2018 the program takes place from July 17 to September 6.
Summer students join groups at DESY and European XFEL which address fundamental and applied questions in the felds of physics, biology, chemistry, crystallography, materials and geological sciences, computing and engineering.
This includes research with synchrotron radiation on molecules, soft matter, solid-state and nanomaterials, the development of new experimental techniques based on synchrotron radiation and lasers and the theory of interaction of matter and light.
Elementary Particle Physics, Astroparticle Physics and Accelerators Summer students will work in the analysis, software or detector related felds of experiments in elementary particle physics (ATLAS, CMS, ILC, BELLE II, ALPS-II) and astroparticle physics (CTA, IceCube), development of particle accelerators, theory of elementary particles and astroparticles, or computing.
Application Deadline is 31 January, 2018.
Qualified applicants should have completed three years of full time studies on a university level by summer 2018. All participating students will obtain financial support.
Program Duration: 2 Months.
Instruction of Language will be English.
Program Cost: Fully Funded

Please take note that due to regulations for paid traineeships in Germany we can only accept students that are enrolled at their university for the whole period of the summer student programme.
Applicants should have completed, by the summer of 2018, at least three years of full-time studies at university level in physics or related natural science disciplines. The main target audiences are students who in summer 2018 are at the following two stages:
– they are about to obtain their Bachelor degree
– they have a Bachelor degree and are within the first year of studies for a Master degree.
Applicants who already obtained a master-degree or will obtain the master degree in 2018 are not accepted.
Applicants should not have previously been at DESY as a summer student
Selected candidates join in the day-to-day work of research groups at the DESY Laboratory in Hamburg or Zeuthen (Berlin) and participate in one of these activities.
While the work in the groups is the main activity, there will also be a series of lectures (given in English) related to the research done at DESY. Visits to the accelerators and experiments are also included in this programme.
If you want to apply please check if you fulfill the conditions.
