The Interior Ministry of Pakistan has not issued any notification regarding holiday on Iqbal Day (9th November, 2016). The news hype over the social media and shared on some of the websites declaring it as holiday are totally wrong and misleading.
The alleged news was shared on social media showing an unreadable notification and an statement in Urdu that the Government has restored Iqbal Day holiday.

The unreadable notification shown over social media seems to be an old one (of 2015) which read as:
“Public Holiday earlier declared for 9th November, 2015 vide Ministry of Interior circular number 2/4/2014-Public dated 2nd January, 2015 is hereby cancelled ab initio.”
That notification clearly speaks the cancellation of holiday awarded from 2015. Therefore, unless a clear cut notification of Interior Ministry, there is no holiday on Iqbal Day.
Update (11am, 8th November, 2016):
All Private Pubic Schools will remain close on account of Iqbal Day. However, there has been no notification of government regarding closure of schools on Iqbal Day.
Dunya news reported that there his summary or proposal for Iqbal Day Holiday (9th Nov, 2016)
However, Express News reported today that there is general public holiday on Iqbal Day (9th Nov, 2016).
In the light of paper writing above controversy, it is reported that there is NO official holiday announced by Federal Government of Pakistan. However, there will be general holiday in KPK and Sindh on Iqbal Day 2016.
How can we forget the struggle of Iqbal, holiday mean that you remember and own the struggle of Iqbal otherwise we feel that we are forgetting their work and omit 9th Nov from our mind.
You are right, Dr Nadeem. We have to keep our minds enlighten with the work marvelous Iqbal has done and this day should be celebrated with zeal. Thanks.
How holiday can help you to remember Allama Iqbal, it useless to remember him unless we remember his vision.
On the other hand there are too much holidays in our country that disturb our growth. Our growth is already suffering because of corruption, terrorism and favored policies. If anyone want to remember him he should not only remember him but also adopt in his own life. We can’t expect a change unless we change ourselves.
Thanks brother
