Saudi Prince, Al-Waleed Bin Talal, has recorded his statement regarding the driving of women in Saudi Arabia. He said that it’s, “Time for women to drive.” their own car/vehicle in Saudi Arabia.
Talal has released a statement on November 24 that argues in favor of Saudi women’s right to drive. He writes, “Preventing a women from driving a car is today an issue of rights similar to the one that forbade her from receiving an education or having an independent identity.”
Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that forbid women from driving. “Women should drive”, he said.
Talal writes that allowing women to drive would relieve many families of the economic burden of hiring a driver. The prince suggests that women wouldn’t be allowed to drive outside of cities or operate any vehicles larger than compact cars.
Women’s rights have been expanding gradually in Saudi Arabia since 2013. Women were permitted to vote in the country for the first time in an election held in December of last year.
